Introduction

The Department of Physics has a very strong focus on the areas of condensed matter physics and material science, with special emphasis on nanoscaled materials and their applications. There are several established research groups with about 15 PhD holders and well-equipped laboratories actively engaged in working on semiconducting, magnetic and multifunctional materials. The research is fundamental as well as application oriented with the objective of developing micro and nanosized sensors for use in biomedicine and detection of environmental hazards. Another important area of research is the development of alternative energy sources such as solar cells, hydrogen storage materials etc.

Junaid Ali

Junaid Ali joined CIIT as a lecturer and has been involved in teaching different courses at UG level. He had additional job assignment as in-charge time table matters for undergrad programs viz., BS Electronics and BS Physics at CIIT. After completion of MS degree from COMSATS (2007-2009), he is aspiring for PhD degree.

Rafay Ahmed

Rafay Ahmed completed his Masters (2012) in the field of Nanotechnology from KTH-Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden. His research was in the topic of "Fabrication and Characterization of Optochemical Sensors". His area of interests includes Optoelectronic devices, Nanotechnology applications in Energy, Sensors. He did Bachelors in Electronics from COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad. Before going for his Masters he has worked as a Research Associate in the Department of Physics. His research was on "Synthesizing ZnO nanoparticles and Optical Properties". He has also worked as a lab Instructor and conducted circuit theory labs. more details

Arshad Saleem Bhatti

Prof. Bhatti, Dean, Faculty of Science, has more than 24 years of teaching and research experience. He is a semiconductor physicist by training and recently working in synthesis and application of nanostructures for sensor applications. He established state of the art device fabrication facilities at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad. more details

Ayesha Farooq

Ayesha Farooq has done her M.Phil. in Solid State Physics in 2003. She joined COMSATS IIT, Islamabad in 2004. Her area of research is thin films, their characterization and structural analysis. Currently she is doing her PhD in Nano technology from COMSATS IIT, Islamabad. more details

Waqas Khalid

Dr. Waqas Khalid did his PhD in Biophotonics in 2011 from Philipps Universit?t Marburg, Germany. He joined COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad as Assistant Professor in 2011. His research interests include synthesis of nanomaterials, surface functionalizations of these nanomaterials, polymeric layer by layer assemblies, fabrication of electrochemical sensing devices, and fabrication of photovoltaic devices.more details

Sadia Manzoor

Sadia Manzoor received her Ph. D. in 1998 from the Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, in the field of Condensed Matter Physics. Her main area of interest lies in magnetic and multiferroic nanostructures. She has worked extensively on exchange biased thin films as well as two and three-dimensional nanodots. A prominent theme in her work is the role played by interfacial effects in modifying properties of different types of composite nanostructures. Another important area of activity is the study of magnetic oxide nanoparticles for biomedical applications, in particular as mediators of self-controlled hyperthermia for cancer treatment. From 2003 to 2005 Sadia Manzoor has worked at the University of York, U.K., first as an HEC (Higher Education Commission, Govt. of Pakistan) postdoctoral fellow, and later as a Common wealth postdoctoral fellow. She has also been a visiting scientist at the University of York (UK), University of Leipzig (Germany) and University of Delaware (USA). more details
